Diploma in Transformational Leadership
Program Overview
This is an advanced diploma (Level 6) aimed at attracting and giving professional support to practitioners working in communities, civil society, church and government organisations. The diploma is built to continue and strengthen the tradition of Training for Transformation. Training for Transformation is an internationally recognised community transformational programme started by the Grail Movement in the liberation tradition influenced by the popular and adult education participatory methodology of Paulo Freire and the long history of Jesuit education called Ignatian Pedagogy. Anne Hope and Sally Timmel wrote a four-volume handbook for community workers entitled, Training for Transformation which have popularised Freirean methods to church and civic groups in the world.
This pre-graduate Diploma will act as a bridge for candidates who want to study transformational leadership at degree level. Arrupe Jesuit University already offers a ZIMCHE approved B.A. Honours in Transformational Leadership.
Objectives and goals
This diploma and the degree programme have the following goals:
To build a new level of transformational leadership in development education that is grounded in sound theory and practice.
To build skills, insights and abilities in strategic organizations to empower self-reliant community efforts that contribute to national and global civil society movements.
These regulations should be read in conjunction with the AJU General Academic Regulations for Diplomas and Short Courses hereinafter referred to as General Regulations.
Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of the Diploma in Transformational Leadership holders should be able to:
Reflect on personal growth and show increased self-awareness, self-esteem and confidence in building healthy relationships with others and with the environment.
Display creative and effective organizational understanding and skills characteristic of transformational leadership
Demonstrate understanding of community development theories and practice and contribute to building strong neighbourhoods, communities and nations.
Practice new and innovative skills to build effective organizations, government institutions and social movements that transform people’s lives and respond to their needs.
Use sound research methods and listening and facilitation skills in local community settings to encourage social justice, peace-building and reconciliation.
Apply innovative technological and entrepreneurial approaches in problem solving, in various contexts such as in social business, industry, government and society in general.
Appreciate and be able to relate local, regional and global knowledge and information on ecology, economics, politics and culture to facilitate leadership for social local and global transformation.
Sensitive to African cultures and heritage and how they can contribute to value creation, innovation and industrialization in African countries.
entry requirements
Normal Entry: A minimum of 5 O level passes including English
Special Entry: A relevant Certificate
Mature Entry: At least 23 years old with at least two years of experience working in development, government or church organizations. Such candidates will be formally assessed and if necessary, interviewed by the Admissions Committee to determine suitability for the programme.
Programme Structure
The student is expected to accumulate a minimum of 240 credit points to be considered to have passed the Diploma in Transformational Leadership
Part 1 – 144 credit points
Part 2 – 144 credit points
Total – 288 credit points
MODE OF DELIVERY
The programme will be conducted through online tutorials; onsite tutorials; self-directed study; written study guide; written assignments; reading course related material; revision; and written examinations or their equivalent. The students have to make sure they are connected to good wifi so as to attend lectures.
