Arrupe Jesuit University (AJU) is advancing its partnership with Flyon Aero towards the establishment of a specialised aviation training centre in Zimbabwe, with significant milestones already achieved.
The partnership between Arrupe Jesuit University and Flyon Aero, an Italian aviation training organisation, was formalised in Harare in November 2024 through the signing of agreements between the two institutions. The agreements provide for the establishment of a Flyon Aero EASA MTO Part-147 Satellite Training Centre at AJU, aimed at expanding access to specialised aviation training in Zimbabwe.
The initiative has now reached an advanced stage, with important milestones already achieved.
A major milestone has been reached with the approval of the aviation examination centre at Arrupe Jesuit University. The University is now preparing to commence offering aviation examinations, bringing specialised aviation examination services closer to professionals and aspiring aviation personnel in Zimbabwe.
As part of the preparations, AJU staff members have undergone specialised training in the administration of aviation examinations. The training has equipped designated staff with the necessary knowledge and procedures to administer the examinations in accordance with the required standards.
AJU Leadership Engages Italian Ambassador
As the partnership continues to progress, representatives of Arrupe Jesuit University recently visited the Italian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Umberto Malanati, to engage on the progress of the initiative and the next phase of development.
The engagement provided an opportunity for AJU representatives to share updates on the milestones achieved since the partnership was formalised and to discuss the continued development of the aviation training initiative.
The meeting also reaffirmed the importance of the collaboration between AJU and Flyon Aero in advancing specialised aviation education and professional training in Zimbabwe.
While the aviation examination centre has already passed the required approval stage, work is continuing towards the establishment of the Flyon Aero Satellite Training Centre itself.
Once completed, the satellite centre will provide a platform for specialised aviation training in Zimbabwe, particularly in the area of aircraft maintenance and related professional development.
Expanding Professional Training at AJU
The partnership represents an important addition to Arrupe Jesuit University’s growing portfolio of professional and specialised training opportunities. It also strengthens the University’s engagement with international partners and industry-focused education.
Through its collaboration with Flyon Aero, AJU is creating opportunities for aviation professionals and aspiring technicians in Zimbabwe to access specialised training and examination services locally.
With the examination centre approved, AJU staff trained in examination administration, and preparations for the Flyon Aero Satellite Training Centre progressing, the partnership is steadily moving towards its next phase.
The development marks an important milestone in Arrupe Jesuit University’s expansion into specialised professional training and its commitment to creating opportunities that respond to the evolving skills needs of Zimbabwe and the wider region.
