Background

The COVID-19 pandemic is first and foremost a health crisis. The severe short-term disruption is felt by many families around the world: home schooling is not only a massive shock to parents’ productivity, but also to children’s social life and learning. Teaching is moving online, on an untested and unprecedented scale. Student assessments are also moving online, with a lot of trial and error and uncertainty for everyone. Furthermore, with the advent of computers, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has fast become the backbone of all industries worldwide. This development has made the incorporation of ICT’s in the Education sector a must for every nation as a key factor in human resource development and operations performance evaluation.

Overview

The Technology Literacy for Educators Program is a professional development program that bridges the gap between technology skills and innovative teaching. Educators are introduced to the skills needed to provide rich, customized learning experiences for their students which incorporate critical 21st century skills using digital tools. Integrating the learning resources and certification into teacher training or professional development will help instructors gain confidence to leverage new technologies in order to maximize student learning outcomes. The Educators will learn practical ways of how to transition from traditional classroom teaching to blended learning using digital learning tools. Educators will also learn how to use basic features of Office 365 Education including Microsoft Teams, OneNote, Sway, Forms, Outlook, Office Online and One Drive.

The certification is ideal for educators-in-training (students currently studying to become teachers), faculty of teacher training colleges, and in-service teachers (teachers currently teaching in schools) and lecturers.

    Upon completion one can choose or is recommended to take the International certification: Microsoft Certified Educator

     

    The Technology Literacy for Educators program gives an individual the ability Identify themselves and proves that an individual is able to integrate ICT’s and 21st Century Skills into modern teaching and learning. The program can enhance professional status and employability.

    Mode of delivery

    • Online learning through live sessions
    • Blended learning- a combination of traditional classroom experience and online learning using Zoom, Google classroom, Microsoft Teams, Moodle etc.
    • Face to face if the environment allows.
